Single ceramic gauge block. For checking and calibrating measuring devices and test equipment.
Dimensions:
Height = 30 mm for actual size < 10.5 mm
Height = 35 mm for actual size > 10.5 mm
Thickness = 9 mm
Gauge blocks (slip gauges) are highly precise, rectangular measuring bodies
with precisely defined lengths. In metrology and quality assurance, they are used to calibrate measuring devices, set up machines, and perform comparative/setting measurements. All specifications are laid down in DIN 861 and DIN EN ISO 3650.
Gauge blocks are available in various materials - we offer steel, ceramic, and tungsten carbide. The table below compares the different properties.
| Property | Steel | Ceramic | Tungsten Carbide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coefficient of thermal expansion | 11.5 ⋅ 10-6 / K | 9.3 ⋅ 10-6 / K | 4.5 ⋅ 10-6 / K |
| Vickers hardness approx. | 800 | 1350 | 1600 |
| Thermal conductivity | ●●○○○ | ●●●●● | ●●●○○ |
| Wear resistance | ●●●○○ | ●●●●● | ●●●●○ |
| Wringing properties | ●●●●● | ●●●○○ | ●●●●● |
| Corrosion resistance | ●●○○○ | ●●●●● | ●●●●○ |
| Long-term stability | ●●●○○ | ●●●●○ | ●●●●● |
Gauge blocks are manufactured in different accuracy classes or tolerance classes, which indicate how precisely the dimension is manufactured. In addition to the most common classes 2, 1, and 0, there is class K (calibration class), which is mainly used for reference measurements.
The higher the number, the greater the permissible deviation from the nominal dimension. The choice of accuracy class depends on the application and the required tolerances in the respective measuring process.
Class 2
Mostly used as "working standards" at testing stations in manufacturing areas and for setting measuring tools and fixtures.
Class 1
Used for setting and calibrating gauges and measuring instruments in measuring rooms and at testing stations in manufacturing areas with high accuracy.
Class 0
Used for high-precision test equipment monitoring and calibration in air-conditioned measuring rooms.

When using gauge blocks, some important tips must be observed to maintain their high accuracy and avoid measurement errors.

A gauge block connector can be used for large gauge block combinations. From 125 mm length, gauge blocks have two bores with which they can be securely fixed in the holder.
